Indie record label XL, who boasts hit recording artist Adele, is amidst a record breaking year with seven nominations for this year’s AIM Independent Music Award nominations.

Adele’s album, ’21,’ was announced as a nominee in the category of Best Second Album, competing against ‘Pala,’ by Friendly Fire. Friendly Fire is also signed to XL. Vampire Weekend and The xx, also of XL, along with Adele, are all in the hat for Most Played Independent Artist. The Horrors are pitted against SBTRKT for the title of Independent Breakthrough of the Year.

The awards ceremony was organised by the Association of Independent Music to honor those who have made outstanding breakthroughs and achievement in the music industry while working outside of the four major record labels. Alison Wenham, an AIM exec high hopes that the awards will help “signal the start of an era” that recognizes the immeasurable contributions and importance of independent artists in the music industry.

The Ninja Tune recording label has received several award nominations. The ceremony will also celebrate Laurence Bell, by presenting him with a Pioneer Award for founding Domino and his efforts in bringing Arctic Monkeys to the mainstream. Bjork will also be honored. She is to be presented with the Outstanding Contribution Award.

The AIM Independent Music Award ceremony will be held November 10 in London.
