“Just The Way You Are” singer Bruno Mars has landed a gig on one of American television’s longest running series, ‘Sesame Street.’ He is one of hundreds of celebrities to have made appearances on the beloved children’s show. ‘Sesame Street’ celebrity alumni include Nicole Kidman, George Lopez, and Katy Perry.
The segment of the show that featured Perry never aired on television due to the ‘Firework’ singer’s attire. Producers for the show believed that the outfit was too revealing, allowing a great deal of cleavage to be visible to young viewers. Mars, however, was arrested last September on charges of cocaine possession.
‘Sesame Street’ is an educational children’s series that combines colorful creatures with song and dance routines and repetition to teach children basic concepts as well as science, math, and engineering, as well as social skills such as emotion, friendship, and sharing.
Mars was sentenced to pay a $ 2,000 fine, 200 hours of community service, and to undergo drug abuse counseling after he was caught with cocaine while in Las Vegas. The sentence was part of a plea agreement commonly known as a diversion. Diversions are similar to probation and set forth a number of requirements that must be completed in satisfaction. Once all of the terms of the program have been met, the charges are then erased from the person’s criminal record.
The 42nd season of ‘Sesame Street’ kicks off on September 26.
