Coldplay’s highly anticipated album, ‘Mylo Xyloto,’ had only been available for a few short hours when people began snatching it up off of the shelves.
‘Mylo Xyloto’ is a bit of a concept album that teamed the group up with popular producer Brian Eno. It is said by frontman himself, Chris Martin, that the album is a “love story with a happy ending.” How it is a concept album may be difficult to judge based solely on the names of the songs featured in the tracklisting. While titles like “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall” and “Hurts Like Heaven” are among the more obvious, titles such as “U.F.O.,” “M.M.I.X.,” and “Major Minus” may have people scratching their heads.
The album’s lead single is a definite pop hit and there is a good chance that several other songs from the album may become widely popular as the band sets out on tour. “Paradise” with its enticing chants may prove to be a hit with stadium crowds.
‘Mylo Xyloto’ is sure to please Coldplay fans, the album doesn’t vary much from the band’s known sound, and as such may fail to attract many new listeners. The songs aren’t upbeat. They aren’t laced with violent and lewd lyrics and accompanied by music videos with half-naked woman prancing and shaking upon a stage.
Martin and the rest of the guys in the band don’t need the extra hype. Their “boy next door” appeal has kept the group together for over a decade and netted them millions of dollars.
