©newsquod.comBrit pop star George Michael was forced to cancel the remainder of his 2011 world tour after becoming ill, forcing the singer to be admitted to the hospital.
Michael was diagnosed with a severe case of pneumonia and was admitted to the intensive care unit of an Australian hospital. Reports surfaced that the “I Want Your Sex” singer was hospitalized for a coronary condition, a claim that has been denied by the singer’s reps as “absolute nonsense.”
“George Michael is ill with pneumonia,” a spokesperson said, dismissing rumors that the singer is suffering from multiple ailments.
A spokesperson for the star has confirmed that Michael will be hospitalized indefinitely in order fully recover from the illness, forcing the cancellation of the remaining 14 concert dates for his ‘Symphonica’ tour. The same rep also indicated that Michael was recovering well, but slowly.
He is not the only British act forced to cancel part of a tour this year due to illness. Adele is currently recovering from an operation performed early in the month to repair a hemorrhage in her throat. The ongoing illness had forced her to cancel a portion of her tour early in the year, but she soon returned to the stage.
When the hemorrhage was discovered, Adele recognized the threat to her voice and canceled the remainder of her tour in order to rest, undergo the procedure, and fully recover. She is expected to return to the stage sometime in December.
