Johnny Depp, who starred as Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie in ‘Finding Neverland,’ has recently been tapped to star in the role of yet another writer, Dr. Seuss.
Seuss, who’s real name is Thomas Seuss Geisel, has penned dozens of children’s books. ‘The Cat in the Hat,’ ‘Horton Hears a Who!,’ and ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ have all been adapted for screenplay. At least two of his works have been turned into both animation and live action works. He is also known for writing ‘Green Eggs and Ham.’
Much remains unknown about the forthcoming film. It is said that the biopic will be scripted by Keith Bunin with Depp’s company Infinitum Nihil company co-producing. The role will not be a first for Depp, who has been cast in numerous roles a thinker or an eccentric. First he starred as Edward Scissorhands before being cast as Dr. Ichabod Crane in Tim Buron’s ‘Sleepy Hollow.’ He has also been cast as a murderer in ‘Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street’ and as oddball candy maker ‘Willy Wonka.’ He is perhaps best known for his role as baby-faced police officer Tom Hanson in ’21 Jump Street.’
Dr. Seuss had sold more than 200 million copies of his works worldwide before he passed away on September 24, 1991.
