Kaiser Chiefs and Kate Nash are among several famed British musical acts who have been assisting in the London riot clean up efforts.
Kaiser Chiefs vocatlist Ricky Wilson made an announcement on Twitter that the group would be doing their part to eliminate the aftermath of the riots, while encouraging others to do the same.
“Camden Chalk Farm. Me and Simon will be there with our brooms,” Wilson wrote. “Get to one near you today if you’re about.”
Kate Nash visited Bethnal Green district, as well as Clapman to lend a hand.
“Nice to see so many people ready to help in the community!” Nash wrote on her Twitter page about her experience at Bethnal Green.
Other British celebrities have been posting about their clean up efforts and experiences on Twitter including Emmy the Great and Get Cape.Wear Cape.Fly.
The London riots were sparked in reaction to the shooting of Mark Duggan in Tottenham. Police were preparing to apprehend Duggan on suspicion that he was about to murder his cousin. Law enforcement officials insisted that Duggan was in possession of an illegally modified gun while friends and family members continue to say that the man was unarmed.
Duggan died of a single shot to the chest, received while he was in a prone position on the ground.
Two days later a group of protesters marched to the Tottenham Police Station demanding answers. As they waited to speak to a high-ranking member of the department, the group set fire to a squad car, sparking the beginning of the riot.
