Pop star Katy Perry is going places and has recently tied a record set by Michael Jackson. Perry has tied with the late King of Pop for the most number one singles from the same album. The record was set earlier today but her smash hit “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).” The album, ‘Teenage Dream,’ shares the honor with M.J.’s 1987 album ‘Bad.’
Perry was barely able to contain her excitement when she received the news and almost immediately began to share her joy with fans.
“What a way to wake up!” she wrote on Twitter. “So proud! ‘Last Friday Night’ is officially #1 and made HISTORY!”
Perry first burst onto the music scene with the release of her album, “One of the Boys.” The song was widely received, but the accompanying music video and the song itself was greeted with controversy. Other songs from her mainstream album include “Hot and Cold” and another controversial song, “You’re So Gay.”
Perry became quickly recognized for her mash-up of period clothes and hairstyles.
“I couldn’t have done it without ya,” Perry posted on her Twitter page. “I owe u guys really BIG!”
The accomplishment pushes Perry into history with comparisons of success to songs from Jackson’s ‘Bad’ album that include “Bad,” The Way You Make Me Feel,” “The Man in the Mirror,” and “Dirty Diana.”
