The remaining two members of the band that promoted change in the world of both pop and rock music paid tribute to their late bandmate yesterday. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr both made appearances at last night’s debut of the film ‘George Harrison: Living in a Material World.’
The film made its initial debut in London, while being simultaneous shown in Harrison’s hometown of Liverpool. Harrison’s widow Olivia, son Dhani, and other family members were on hand for the premiere. Other well known celebrities attending the event included Yoko Ono, actor Sir Ben Kingsley, Noel Gallagher, and many others. Harrison’s former wife, Pattie Boyd was also seen at the premiere.
“He was a great man,” McCartney said of Harrison, who passed away in 2001.
The movie took director Martin Scorcese more than five years to complete and focuses on Harrison’s rise to fame, as well as his extensive philanthropy work. After his time with the Beatles, Harrison took the time to focus on a solo career.
Scorcese himself enjoyed Harrison’s music, often connecting with the themes.
“I found comfort in them,” he said of Harrison’s works, before admitting that he found Harrison to be fascinating.
‘George Harrison: Living in a Material World’ will make a run at select cinemas before being aired in two segments on the BBC in the UK. The film will make its American debut on HBO in November.
