Irish band and rock-n-roll music staple Thin Lizzy has resurfaced after a two and a half decade hiatus. The band was just reaching the height of their success in the early 80s when life led the group as a whole down a different path.
The group is best known for their smash hit song “The Boys Are Back in Town,” as well as “Jailbreak” and “Still In Love With You.” Thin Lizzy played their final gig together in September 1984 and founding member Phil Lynott, who also covered vocals and bass, passed away in 1986. Somehow, the spirit of Thin Lizzy lived on through surviving members Scott Gorham, Brian Downey, and Darren Wharton and the three have brought together a new performance lineup and brought to the UK a sold out tour in early 2011.
The new group lineup features members of Guns N Roses, The Almighty, and Whitesnake. Richard Fortus, Marco Mendoza, and Ricky Warwick have joined with Gorham, Downey, and Wharton to deliver a musical fusion that would make Lynott proud.
The six astonished old fans and critics when they delivered the spectacular tour early this year and an evening more stunning performance at the Download Festival. Talks of a 2012 UK tour are underway and Universal Music has decided upon the deluxe re-issue of Thin Lizzy hits. Three of the group’s deluxe albums are scheduled for re-issue in July 2011 and a collection of performances “At The BBC” are scheduled for release in October 2012.
