Will Young Tapped to Mentor on ‘The Voice’

Who else would be better to mentor a televised singing competition than someone who has already been through the motions themselves? Former’POP Idol’ contestant and winner Will Young has been named as a mentor on the next season of ‘The Voice.’

Young was tapped in place of pop star Kylie Minogue who put a $ 2.5M price tag on her services. The cost was more than the Beeb was willing to shell out for her to appear as a panel judge and mentor on the show, as they offered just $ 1M.

The up and coming star was tapped for the gig, according to an insider, due to show producers believing that Young could fit in easily. It also remains to be seen that Young’s personal experiences on ‘PIP Idol’ could assist him in mentoring contestants when it comes to dealing with the process of training, judging, elimination, and for possible further success.

‘The Voice’ is unique among today’s televised singing competitions as the panel judges do not initially see the contestants. Judges are seated facing away from the potential superstars so that they cannot see them and therefore make the decision of whether or not to accept the individual to their team based solely on their voice. Only after deciding yes or nor are the judges seats turned so that they may see the contestant.

The Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am is also said to be under consideration as a mentor, as are Tom Jones and Jessie J.
